Deputies: Man Steals Bulbs, Sheets, Drinks from Motel

Richland County (WLTX) - Richland County deputies are searching for a suspect who they say took items from a storage room at a local motel.

Officers say the incident took place around 7 p.m. May 4 at the Comfort Inn at 911 Bush River Road.

Investigators say the suspect entered a back storage room and took household items, including bed linen, light bulbs, and beverages.

The items he took were valued at $500.00.

Surveillance photos of the suspect are attached to this article.

Man charged in repeated elevator urination

Federal officials today charged a contractor for the Internal Revenue Service with repeatedly urinating inside a Detroit IRS building freight elevator, causing a stink for other employees.Michael Hicks, 55, of Detroit is charged with a felony count of malicious mischief, damaging governmental property by a sum exceeding $1,000. The crime is punishable by up to 10 years in prison.


An affidavit filed today in U.S. District Court says Hicks’ urination caused the IRS to incur a deep cleaning expense of $4,626.


The investigation began on Aug. 16, 2007, when the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration received a complaint about someone urinating in a freight elevator of the IRS building on Michigan Avenue.


An investigator installed a surveillance camera and picked up images of someone urinating in the elevator “on numerous occasions,” according to the affidavit.


Hicks was identified and confessed to the urination during a 2008 interview, the affidavit states.


“Hicks denied having any medical conditions that would cause him to commit such an offense,” Delmaria Scott, a special agent for the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration, said in the affidavit. “He stated that he did it because he felt he could get away with it.”


Gina Balaya, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Attorney’s Office, said the charges were delayed because investigators tried to resolve the issue with Hicks but were unable to do so.


Hicks was not yet in custody this morning, investigators said.

Man Confesses to Bank Robbery on MySpace

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- A man who confessed to robbing a South Carolina bank in a message posted on MySpace has pleaded guilty.
Federal prosecutors said Thursday that 27-year-old Joseph Northington of Roanoke, Va., will be sentenced later for using a firearm during a crime of violence.
Authorities say Northington robbed a bank in North Augusta of almost $4,000 in January while visiting a friend, who called investigators after seeing surveillance pictures of Northington.
Prosecutors say before his arrest, Northington posted a message to his MySpace account reading: "On tha run for robbin a bank Love all of yall."
Northington faces seven years to life in prison. His attorney did not return a phone call Thursday.
Northington's MySpace page is still up, his status listed as "wanted."

The authorities in six German states have ordered retailers to stop selling Red Bull Cola energy drinks after traces of cocaine were found in it.
Red Bull says b-b-ut it’s only a small trace:
“Decocainized coca leaf extracts are used as flavoring in food products around the world and are considered to be safe,” Red Bull said in a statement Tuesday. It cited a Food and Drug Administration code that lists de-cocainized coca leaf as a safe, natural extractive.”
Eh, isn’t that like saying it’s coffee but de-caffeinated coffee? Germany isn’t buying it. They’ve already started clearing their shelves and a ban is in order.

Prison guard gets knocked up by inmate, arrested for rape

I’m not sure where I stand on this one. A prison guard, Reyna Lujan (pictured here for you to determine if you’d do her or not) had sex with an inmate at the jail where she worked. She got knocked up. And, as a result of the proof of sex, she’s now being accused of rape.

A former jail guard could be charged with rape after deputies say she became pregnant by an inmate while she was working at MDC.
Bernalillo County investigators think the inmate impregnated the guard, Reyna Lujan, in his own cell while the guard was on duty.
Lujan, who denies the charges, quit the jail after her bosses started investigating her.A tip from inmates spurred the investigation. Now investigators have hundreds of phone calls between the two.
“The sheriff’s office is recommending that she be charged with criminal sexual penetration in this case,” said DA spokesman Pat Davis. “It’s a second degree felony because it involves a person of authority — in this case, a correctional officer.”
Lujan could be hit with a rape charge for each time she had sex with the inmate, Eric Brayman, even if she didn’t force the inmate.
“Although we can’t speculate whether it was consensual or not, the law doesn’t make an exception for that,” Davis said.

The promoter who tricked 3,000 Surinamese concert goers into thinking they paying to see the real Toni Braxton, testified that celebrity impersonator Trina Johnson-Finn was not in on his scam. Trina 41, has been jailed in Surname for over three months awaiting trial. You can click here for back story on the case. Anyway, even though dude testified that Trina had nothing to do with it, the prosecutor says she tried to pass herself off as Toni and and that the promoters testimony did not clear her of involvement. The case was adjourned until June 2 and Trina was sent back to her cell.

We must be in a recession for relations too, cause I'm shame for a damn deputy walkin up to women at Walmart rubbin' his goods on them! WTF? Raleigh police have arrested a Warren County sheriff's deputy in bizarre incidents at two stores.

Police spokesman Jim Sughrue says his department has charged 40-year-old Cornelius Orlando Davis with two counts of sexual battery.

This nasty bastard allegedly walked up to women in the stores and rubbed his genitals on them. What in the hell? How does that happen? You just walk up to a woman and say, "Excuse me, ma'am..." (BAM!!) and slap her with your happy stick?

The first time, it happened at the Brier Creek Wal-Mart store on Glennwood Avenue on May 30. The second time, it happened this past Wednesday at both the Wal-Mart and a Kohl's store on Alexander Promenade.

Detectives say although the attacks did not involve bare skin, they're still considered sexual assaults. In the first incident, the victim was able to get out her cell phone and snap a picture of her attacker as he walked away.

"That's pretty brave. I think I would have been a little in shock and I don't know if I would have reacted that quickly," offered shopper Libby Powers when Eyewitness News spoke with her after the May incident.

Despite the image, and video from surveillance cameras in the store, detectives weren't able to make the connection to Davis until after the second incidents. Kohl's security says it noticed Davis' alleged behavior and called Wal-Mart when it appeared he was heading there. Davis was arrested inside the Wal-Mart when security there called 911.

Investigators say they're concerned Davis may have done the same thing to other women.

"It's the sort of experience that some people would report. Others might just be so startled by it they wouldn't know exactly what to do. If anyone else has had a similar experience, we would ask them to come forward," said Sughrue in a May interview.

Women who shop at the stores that we spoke with in May said they were worried what else the attacker was capable of. "If someone's willing to do that, they'd probably be willing to take the next step," said Powers.

Davis bonded out of the Wake County Jail Thursday afternoon. In an exclusive interview with Eyewitness News, his brother said the deputy has done nothing wrong.

"I know my brother's innocent. There's been no wrongdoing. We have a tight knit family and we're going to work through it," offered Torrance Davis. "He's a war veteran. He's a good father, a good provider, a good brother, good friend."

SMH: Forget Octomom, Desmond “Drop a Seed” Hatchet is 29 Years Old With 21 Kids


As if Octomom wasn’t bad enough, a Tennessee man, 29 year old Desmond Hatchett has now fathered at least 21 children he can’t support. Hatchett was in child support court again last week. His name appeared on the dockett 11 times in one day, representing 15 of his children.

Hatchett says he wasn’t out to set a record. He says he never intended to have this many children, “It just happened.” He fathered the children by at least 11 different women and he claims all of the mothers knew about his large family. The children range in age from newborn to 11 years old.

The question Knox County officials now face is how to support all these children. Hatchett works a minimum wage job and by law the state can only take 50% of his paycheck for child support. By the time that money is split 21 ways, some of the mothers get less than $2 per month. That leaves the taxpayers footing a large portion of the bill for these children.

Even though Hatchett can’t support the children he has, there is nothing the state can do to prevent him from having more. Hatchett reports that he had 4 children in one year, twice. He says he’s done having children now, but only time will tell. He does say that he’s a good father and knows the names, ages, and birthdates of all of his children.

All of the blame can’t be placed on Hatchett in this case. One has to wonder about the women who chose to have his children. In the end, the children and the taxpayers of Tennessee will pay for their choices for years to come.

This is just foul. Situations like these make the concept of government regulated sterilization sound like a wonderful plan.

Spanish study shows cocaine in the air in Madrid and BarcelonaMADRID - Air pollution has long been a fact of life in Spanish cities, but scientists now say it is not just smog that chokes people as they walk to work or stroll through the park.A new study has found the air in Madrid and Barcelona is also laced with at least five drugs — most prominently cocaine.The Superior Council of Scientific Investigations, a government institute, said on its Web site Thursday that in addition to cocaine, they found trace amounts of amphetamines, opiates, cannabinoids and lysergic acid — a relative of LSD — in two air-quality control stations, one in each city, But it said there was no reason for alarm."Not even if we lived for a thousand years would we consume the equivalent of a dose of cocaine by breathing this air," scientist Miren Lopez de Alda said in a statement.The scientific group stressed that "in no case should these levels be considered representative of the air in the two cities." It said the tests were done in areas where drugs were likely to be consumed.In Madrid, the test site was close to a ruined building believed to be frequented by drug dealers. And in both Madrid and Barcelona, the studies were carried out close to universities.Higher concentration over weekendsThe group said the study showed higher concentrations of the components on weekends, suggesting that drug consumption was up in these periods.The research found cocaine in concentrations ranging between 29 and 850 picogram per cubic meter of air. A picogram is one-trillionth of a gram.Mar Viana, another researcher who worked on the project, said the levels were far higher than those found in similar studies in Europe. She said one study in Rome and Taranto in 2007 revealed cocaine levels of 100 picograms per cubic meter.According to the U.S. State Department, Spain is Europe's largest consumer of cocaine and hashish. It is also a major transit point for narcotics shipments from South and Central America as well as Africa.The scientists detected the drug by placing quartz microfiber filters in the air-testing stations. They said the method was new and could help in measuring drug use in towns and cities in a fast and anonymous way.The group said the findings would be published in the U.S. journal Analytical Chemistry.

The R&B singer has chosen “Why R U?” as the lead single off her first album on Island Def Jam. The song was produced by The Buchanans. The Buchanans helmed “Crush” off Amerie’s last album Because I Love It, “Hip-Hop Star” from Beyoncé’s debut album, and “What More Can I Say?” off Jay-Z’s The Black Album.
A video for “Why R U?” will be shot later this week in Los Angeles with director Ray Kay (Christina Milian’s “Us Against the World”).
Amerie’s fourth studio effort is due this summer

Woman Discovers $271,366 Extra in Her Bank Account

Bellevue, Washington (KOMO) -- Imagine going to the ATM machine and discovering you have more money in your account than you can imagine. It happened to a single mom in Washington after she found more than a quarter of a million dollars in her account.
Behind in rent and facing eviction, struggling single mom Lynita Regis couldn't believe her eyes when she went to the ATM. It said her balance was $271,366.01.
She checked her bank balance again, and each time the balance balooned, more money than she'd ever earned or seen."271 (thousand), 275 (thousand), 278 (thousand)," she said.Relatives fostered the fantasy of what life could be and her son even asked her to keep the money.
She felt the temptation. "It could change my life. I would love to keep the money," she said.
She started mentally spending the cash on a new car, bills, and even on her friends. "It's a struggle, we're human but a child of God and gotta do the right thing even though I have nothing," Regis said.It turns out, the money belongs to King County. Regis once worked at the jail in that county, a job that apparently had signee privleges she didn't know she had. When a teller issued her a new debit card last week, the system mistakenly gave her access to the adult detention center account.
Regis has since gotten a new card and is now back where she began. "Broke but I feel relieved... but broke," she said.Regis says someday she'll have to pay the piper but she didn't want to do it with stolen money.

Wanda Sykes's wife gives birth to twins

LOS ANGELES, May 13 (UPI) -- Wanda Sykes's publicist said the U.S. actress and comedian's wife Alex has given birth to twins -- a son and a daughter.
"All are happy and healthy and at home," Sykes's representative told Usmagazine.com Wednesday.
The babies were born April 27 and are named Olivia Lou and Lucas Claude, the entertainment news Web site said.
Wanda and Alex Sykes married last October in California before Proposition 8 was passed, overturning a state Supreme Court ruling legalizing same-sex marriage.
Sykes is best known for her work on TV's "The Chris Rock Show" and "The New Adventures of Old Christine," as well as in the movies "Monster-in-Law," "My Super Ex-Girlfriend" and "Over the Hedge."
