DENVER, N.C. (AP) -- Authorities say marijuana plants found growing in a toddler's room in North Carolina have led to the arrest of a man and woman living in the home.
Lincoln County court officials said 19-year-old Markie Hawkins and 23-year-old David McMurtry were assigned public defenders Tuesday. They face charges that include manufacturing a controlled substance.
The Charlotte Observer reports the pair was arrested Monday after two plants were found inside two closets used as growing chambers in their Denver home. One closet was in the bedroom of an 18-month-old child.
The plants and growing equipment were seized. The child was placed in the care of a family member.
Hawkins and McMurtry are in jail on a $20,000 bond.
